Its woody branching habit brings immediate charm to any sunny windowsill, desk, or patio arrangement. Extremely low-maintenance and fast-growing, this succulent thrives in full sun and rewards bright light with sturdy growth and vibrant stem color.
Each order includes a well-rooted plant in a 2.5" square starter pot, featuring a cascading growth habit that is easily pruned and shaped over time. It is beginner-friendly, highly heat-tolerant, and exceptionally drought-resistant.
Quick Care Guide
Light: Full sun to bright indirect light. Direct sunlight promotes dense foliage and rich reddish stem color.
Watering: Use the soak-and-dry method. Allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings, and reduce watering during winter months.
Soil: Plant in a well-draining cactus and succulent mix with gritty additives like perlite or pumice to ensure proper root aeration.
Temperature: Tender to light freezes. It thrives in warm weather but must be protected or brought indoors whenever temperatures dip near or below 30°F to 32°F.
Pets
Unlike Euphorbia species, Portulacaria afra is completely non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. In its native habitat in South Africa, it is even a favorite food source for wildlife.
